About MTG IntelliDeck

If IntelliDeck helps one player build a deck that finally works the way they imagined, it’s doing its job.

Our Story

I fell in love with Magic: The Gathering around the year 2000.

Like many players, I started casually playing with friends, learning as I went, and enjoying the creativity of the game more than the results. I loved Magic, but I wasn’t very good at it. I didn’t know the card pool. I didn’t understand how to pilot a deck. I didn’t know how to evaluate cards, read a board state, or anticipate what opponents were trying to do.

I stepped away from the game in 2002, but Magic has a way of pulling people back.
In 2007, I returned and began playing Standard at my local card shop. That’s when I first encountered a new format people were talking about — EDH.

Watching those games sparked something immediately.

Suddenly, the cards I had loved years before weren’t obsolete. They were relevant again. The format was creative, expressive, and strategic in a way I hadn’t experienced before. That night I stayed up until 2 a.m. going through cards, imagining possibilities, and building ideas.

For the next 17 years, Commander became my primary way to experience Magic.

The Analytical Mindset

Outside of Magic, my professional background is in quality control and analytical problem solving. I naturally approached Commander the same way, not just asking what cards are good, but why they’re good, how they interact, and what systems make decks consistent.

Commander is a puzzle.
Mana bases are systems.
Card evaluation is logic.
Winning games is structure, not luck.

I became fascinated with the hidden layer of deckbuilding: synergy mapping, role definition, win condition clarity, ramp structure, and mana engineering.

The Moment IntelliDeck Was Born

A few years ago, my teenage son wanted to learn how to play with us.

When I tried to teach him how to build a deck, I realized something important: the hardest part of Commander isn’t finding cards, it’s understanding them.

He didn’t know how to evaluate cards.
He didn’t understand synergy.
Win conditions were abstract.
Ramp and support felt invisible.

I went looking for a tool that could teach this, something that didn’t just list popular cards, but explained the structure behind good decks.

It didn’t exist.

So I decided to build it.

What MTG IntelliDeck Is

MTG IntelliDeck is a passion project built around a simple belief:

Commander players deserve analytical tools, not popularity lists.

Most deckbuilding sites scrape usage data.
We analyze roles.
We model structure.
We apply mathematical logic.
We surface synergy intentionally.

Our goal is to become the analytical layer for Commander.

That means helping players:

  • Build mana bases that actually support their game plan
  • Understand ramp beyond “play more rocks”
  • Define real win conditions
  • Evaluate cards by role, not hype
  • See how decks function as systems
  • Learn how to pilot, not just assemble

IntelliDeck isn’t trying to replace creativity.
It’s designed to unlock it.

Our Philosophy

A good Commander deck isn’t a pile of strong cards.
It’s a coherent machine.

Every card has a job.
Every slot has a purpose.
Every strategy has a structure.

We believe:

  • Deckbuilding is teachable
  • Consistency is designable
  • Synergy is measurable
  • Mana is the foundation of everything
  • Players improve when systems are visible

Where We’re Going

MTG IntelliDeck is evolving into more than a website.

We’re building:

  • Authoritative strategy guides
  • A structured deckbuilding engine
  • Mana and ramp analysis tools
  • A system for saving and refining decks
  • A marketplace bridge connecting players to cards locally and online
  • A learning platform that makes Commander fundamentals clear

Our long-term vision is simple:

Make Commander easier to understand, without making it less deep.

Why This Exists

I wish something like IntelliDeck existed when I started.

I wish someone had explained why my decks stalled.
Why mana bases failed.
Why powerful cards didn’t always create powerful decks.
Why synergy mattered more than raw strength.

So this project exists for the version of every player who feels that confusion, including my son, and maybe you.

If IntelliDeck helps one player build a deck that finally works the way they imagined, it’s doing its job.
